Jewelry Care Guide

Jewelry Care

We know the feeling you get when you wear a new piece of jewellery and with a little care you can have that feeling over and over again. To keep your jewelry looking pristine, you need to take care of it.

Most of our jewelry is crafted by hand, so you may find some small inconsistences from piece to piece. Some of our pieces can be very delicate, so please take care when handling them. If our pieces are dropped, they may break and components may fall off, we are not responsible for any breakages caused by mishandling.

There are a variety of metals used in making our pieces such as; mixed metal, aluminium, brass, copper and steel. Unless otherwise marked, our pieces are gold and silver plated. All our pieces are lead and nickle free. Most of our pieces are fine and delicate pieces, and need to be handled accordingly.

Most of you know the usual things to avoid, but here are our tips on how to keep your jewelry looking its best:

  • Don’t wear it in the shower. I know above I said it’s fine to wear our Stainless Steel and even Sterling Silver jewelry in the shower, but do you really need to?
  • Don’t wear it to bed. If you get regular visitors in the middle of the night and need to be looking your best, then ok, but for the rest of you, take it off.
  • Remove your jewelry before washing your hands, exercising, & swimming.
  • Always put on your jewelry last and take it off first. You want to avoid it getting caught onto your clothes.
  • Always give your jewelry a wipe after wearing. Even from general wear, your jewelry is going to pick up moisture and oil from your skin. So use the soft pink cloth and give it a gentle wipe when you take it off.
  • Store your jewelry individually in order to avoid scratching. If you throw all your jewelry in together, not only is it going to become a huge tangled mess, but all the pieces are going to rub against each other, scratching each other. All our pieces come in a pouch or box, so store them in that, separately.
  • Store your jewelry in a moisture free environment. Moisture in the air can react with some types of metal and cause tarnishing. Yes they might look nice displayed on your dresser, but the jewelry is better off put away until you wear it next. Again, keep it in a pouch or box, in your jewelry organiser.
  • Lastly, is the usual, avoid contact with chemicals such as perfume, hair spray, moisturisers, deodorant, household cleaners, etc Even if the jewelry doesn’t “tarnish” sometimes these chemicals will affect the high polish of the jewellery.
  • Wear and store your jewelry in a way that minimizes contact with other items that may damage it.
  • Store your stainless steel jewelry pieces separately from jewelry made of other metal types. It’s best to keep them in separate individual bags or pouches.
